Dictation

Dictation is the workflow of producing written text by speaking it out loud. It can be human dictation (a person transcribes what you say) or machine dictation (software transcribes it in real time). In modern usage, 'dictation' almost always means the software version.

You speak. It writes. The whole point is to skip the keyboard — either because you can't type easily, don't want to, or just think faster than you type.

For anyone who thinks faster than they type — founders, non-native English writers, people with typing fatigue, ADHD writers who lose ideas at the keyboard — dictation removes the biggest bottleneck in getting a first draft on the page.

Dictation is not a niche accessibility feature. It's a productivity workflow. Many of the fastest writers today speak first and edit second.
