What live transcript is

Live transcript is the part of Zahvox that turns your voice into words on screen in real time. You press the record button, start speaking, and see the recognized text appear as you talk. It is the first surface most people meet when they open the tool, and it is the one that decides whether the whole voice-to-writing workflow feels usable.

Under the hood, live transcript uses the browser's built-in speech recognition. Zahvox wraps that with a calm interface, a clear recording state, and an auto-restart behavior so long sessions do not silently stop. The recognized text sits in an editable panel, ready for a manual pass or, later, an AI cleanup pass when that feature is ready.

Why live transcript matters

Most people think faster than they type. When you have to stop and hunt for keys, the good ideas evaporate. Live transcript closes that gap. You speak at the speed you think, and the words are already on screen by the time your sentence finishes. That is the whole point of a voice-to-writing tool: to keep the pace of thought and the pace of writing in the same room.

How it works today

Open the free tool, allow microphone access when your browser asks, and press start. The mic indicator turns on and Zahvox begins recognizing your speech. As you talk, the transcript panel updates. When you pause, the current phrase settles into place and the next one begins.

Browser speech recognition sometimes stops on its own — a long silence, a background switch, a low-level browser decision. When that happens in a supported browser, Zahvox notices and restarts the session so you do not have to click record again mid-thought. You can stop at any time, edit what is on screen, copy it, or download it as a text file.

Everything happens in the browser. There is no upload of audio to a Zahvox server today. That is the reason there is no signup and no download.

Limitations to know

• · Browser speech recognition can pause on its own; Zahvox auto-restarts where the browser allows.
• · Best experience is desktop Chrome or Edge. Safari and Firefox behave differently.
• · Accuracy depends on browser, microphone quality, accent, background noise, and speaking clarity.
• · Very long sessions may still stop and need a manual restart on some devices.
• · AI cleanup is not fully live yet — the transcript today is the raw recognized text, edited by you.
• · Saved history is planned, so if you close the tab, the transcript is gone. Copy or download it first.
